Friggin’ FINALLY – Major Crimes Season 2

Major Crimes

Airs Mondays at 9PM EST on TNT

If you’re not watching Major Crimes, well, then, I hate you. Just kidding. But not really.

Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell, is a spin-off of The Closer and has just begun its second season. McDonnell plays Captain Sharon Raydor, who replaced Chief Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) as head of the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division. And she is kicking ass, locking up douchebag criminals and such.

I should probably interject here that I have a major girl crush on Mary McDonnell. I’ve loved her since Dances With Wolves (her performance in which was nominated for an Oscar) and fell in love with her Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica. The woman can ACT. And she has pretty green eyes and hair of the most awesome win.

For any unfortunate soul who isn’t familiar with Mary, here is a tiny picspam:

Spoilery Episode Summary and Personal Opinion

So anyway, after, like, way too long a hiatus, Major Crimes premiered last night with its first episode of season 2. And I loved everything about it! There was drama and humor, a good plot and awesome subplot, and we were introduced to a new Deputy District Attorney (Emma Rios, played by Nadine Velasquez) who we already love to hate.

The crime of the week revolved around the murder of a famous director’s pregnant wife, who was stabbed and dumped into the swimming pool. The guy who played the director (whose name I can’t find anywhere on the internet) was fabulous. He played a very convincing adulterous douchebag – and his curly, crazy, out-of-control hair made me laugh.

The B plot was all about Sharon’s relationship with Rusty(Graham Patrick Martin), the teenaged eyewitness in a high profile rape case whom she took in last season. The interaction between Sharon and Rusty is always awesome, but this week, these two took it to a whole ‘nother level. Sharon was attempting to safeguard Rusty’s privacy while also preparing him for testifying in court, but that new DDA we love to hate came at him hard. I enjoyed seeing Mama!Raydor in defense mode – she is fierce. Mary can say so much with just her eyes  – and when she choked up while trying to convince Rusty to talk to DDA Rios? My heart broke a little bit.

I also liked seeing Rusty’s sensitivity in wanting to spare himself the “shame” of having to go over his testimony in Sharon’s presence. I love that he’s gone from hating her to respecting – and, probably, loving – her. I love that her opinion of him means so much to him. I love his vulnerability in thinking Sharon’s opinion of him might change if she has to hear to the details of his testimony again (he was forced into prostitution when his loser mother abandoned him and was with a “date” when he witnessed the crime he has to testify about).

Highlights:

  • Sanchez flirting with the new DDA in the morgue – ha!
  • Flynn “walking like a clown” – so funny!
  • Sharon telling DDA Rios not to interrupt her – you go, girl
  • Sharon choking up talking to Rusty about having to testify
  • Rusty talking to Provenza about not wanting Sharon present for his testimony – G.O.D.
  • The victim’s husband being a dick about having to care for his kids
  • Sharon’s hair! So much prettier – more volume – this season

I just went to replay the episode so I could verify a few quotes, but somebody erased it from the DVR!  Or, more likely, the damn cable box, which has a mind of its own, I swear, deleted it from my list of recordings. I … I don’t even know. I’m … pissed. And bummed. Wtf, man? What the actual fuck?

Alrighty then. Gonna go cry now.
